Part five of our six part series on billing practices in the HVAC and Plumbing industries.
Scenario: I am afraid that my technicians will resist the concept of Flat Rate.
Education is key. We believe you should educate your staff on the concept of overhead and how making money in the service department is crucial to them getting paid what they deserve.
In some cases education just doesn’t work. If this happens to you, just tell them this is the way pricing will be done. No further discussion. Let them know that you will be training them how to use the Flat Rate Pricing books. Tell them the dispatcher will explain to customers about the diagnostic or show-up charge. Tell your technicians that their job isn’t to sell repairs, but to give customers options so that they can make the buyer decision.
